Horsing Around



Welsh Mountain Pony. The Welsh mountain pony is a light and springy little horse native to Wales.

Shire. The Shire is a huge workhorse with long hair covering its legs and feet.

Barb. A handsome horse native to Northwest Africa, the athletic Barb can run quickly over short distances and can also run very long distances.

Belgian Heavy Draft Horse. A very strong workhorse, the Belgian heavy draft horse was used in European warfare for centuries.

Appaloosa. The appaloosa is a strong and sure-footed horse native to the north western United States.

Arabian. The Arabian is one of the oldest horse breeds in the world. Many people think it is the most beautiful and elegant horse breed.

Mustang. Mustangs are wild horses that live in Mexico and the western plains of the United States.

Trakehner. The Trakehner is a popular European riding horse that was first breed in Poland.

Paint. The paint is a cowboy horse with big, splotchy spots all over it.

Lipizzaner. The Lipizzaner is a famous Austrian show horse breed. These horses are trained to perform to precise dance steps.

Clydesdale. The Clydesdale is a large working horse and the national horse of Scotland.

Shetland Pony. The Shetland pony is tough little horse native to the Shetland Islands of northern Scotland.

Quarter Horse. The Quarter horse is a strong and quick working horse. It was the first all-American breed and became a very popular cowboy horse.

Holstein. The Holstein is a popular riding and coach horse, and is good at jumping.

Icelandic Pony. During the cold winters in Iceland, the hair of the Icelandic Pony grows almost all the way down to the ground.
